Over the last few years, we have seen a number of fires on container ships which are obviously concerning. These have in extreme cases led to the loss of the vessel with significant environmental consequences as seen in the loss of MV X-Press Pearl off the coast of Sri Lanka.
The industry also seeks to avoid these fires which cause damage to container contents, and adjacent containers and will interrupt the routing and schedule for these vessels.
