Sustainable Oil Recovery & Remediation (SORR) is dedicated to improving the environment, eliminating toxic hydrocarbons and dissolved pollutants by diagnosing, preventing, monitoring, and remediating waterways to ensure clean water and valuable waste.

SORR has developed a sponge technology that rapidly absorbs oil from land and water, without absorbing water. The oil is recycled and the sponge is re-used, reconditioned, refined and repurposed. A circular economy for oil. Australian-owned SORR is bringing this technology to the UK at the Marine Spill and Plastic Pollution conference organised by the UK and Ireland Spill Association to be held at the National Oceanography Centre on 11 and 12 June 2024.

Multiple award-winning patented technology resulted from trials with different types of materials that soak up oil and supported by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation’s (ANSTO) world-leading materials analysis capability, we tested and trialled hundreds of different combinations.

We invented Sucoil (‘Suck Oil’), a unique granular sponge material that rapidly absorbs oil from land or water, without absorbing water, never sinks and gets lost and, importantly, beats any other existing material because it can be reused many times with little loss of function.

At the heart of the business is a commitment to clean our earth and its oceans more efficiently and sustainably than ever before, thus leaving the planet healthier than we inherited it. The hydrocarbons recovered can be ‘squeezed’ from the sponge that can be used up to 10 times and at the end of its life the sponge is recycled to local SORR representatives and is reconditioned for further use.

SORR was a Global Finalist of XTC 2022. Xtreme Tech Challenge is a non-profit
organization behind the world’s biggest start-up competition in the world.

Its technology is patent-protected and is now being rolled out across the world.

SORR join Sureclean Response as the silver sponsor of this new event.
