‘There’s tar everywhere’: large California oil spill fouls beaches and kills wildlife

One of the issues for the oil companies as we move to net-zero is the maintenance of ageing infrastructure.

There is a need to increase maintenance spend if the old infrastructure is going to be kept in use and also spend on the response if a spill is identified so it can be contained and cleaned up quickly.

This spill, in a site that had previously been adversely impacted by a spill, shows the consequences of not maintaining equipment and not have a containment and response plan in place.
